He composed the Christmas cantata in Leipzig for Christmas Day and first performed it on 25 December 1725. == History == The cantata was composed in Leipzig as a choral work celebrating Christmas Day, as part of Bach's third cantata cycle.〔(Johann Sebastian Bach Composer Cantata No.110: Unser Mund sei voll Lachens (Christmas), BWV110 ) classicalarchives.com〕 It was previously believed that the cantata was written for the end of the War of the Polish Succession in 1734 (the text does not refer directly to the Christmas festival), but scholars in the 1950s revised the composition date back to 1725.〔http://www.bach.org/bwv110.php〕 This piece is based on Psalm 126, Jeremiah 10, and the second chapter of Luke.〔 Three arias are settings of verse by Georg Christian Lehms from his ''Gottgefälliges Kirchen-Opffer'' (Darmstadt, 1711).
